    Pumps Fault Finding Explained

    Why do Pumps fail?

    Pump Failure

Over 60% of pumps fail and when they do it is generally due to the following reasons:

    3. Bearing issues:

The main reason for bearing failure is inadequate lubrication, which results in it overheating. Other issues include incorrect bearing selection, overload, fatigue and many more.

    1. Mechanical seal leakage:

Leakages often occur at the interface between the two seal faces, but there are occasions when leakages also come from the secondary sealing area. There are a variety of reasons for this to occur, such as dry running, thermal distortion, and misalignment of seal rings

    4. Impeller wear and tear

One of the most common reasons is erosion, but it can also be as a result from an improperly sized pump, which can lead to pressure imbalance.

    2. Process issues:

These malfunctions occur due to an incorrectly selected pump for the specific process, application, or operating condition. It is crucial to fit the right pump for your specific application

    5. Coupling-related issues:
