    Cold Water Booster Sets

Our bespoke cold water booster sets are used for pumping stored drinking water to high-rise and commercial buildings. We also supply and install circular pumps, which are used for closed heating and chilled water applications.

    Booster Sets Explained

    What is a Booster Set?

A Booster Set is a pump with a pressure control used to maintain a constant water pressure in the system. The controls recognise lowering pressure and flow rates and boost performance automatically.

Booster Sets are used where the supply into the building does not meet the demand required. The mains supply feeds into a storage tank where it is stored before being pumped around the system using the booster set. They deliver the required pressure when it is needed.  Variable Speed Booster Sets can reduce energy costs by up to 50% when compares to traditional booster sets.

What are Booster Sets used for?

Booster sets are designed to meet the demands and needs of commercial, industrial, and domestic installations. The main use is to pressurise drinking water within the built environment or the mains water network. Booster sets are also used for irrigation, car washes, water treatment systems, industrial processes, and fire suppression systems.

    Booster Set Design

Booster sets are designed to be compact, from a single pump domestic set to multi-pump industrial sets.

Each set has an option for inverters to be fixed to each pump or a control panel for larger installations. The control panel gives the end user more options to the BMS systems for a variety of alarm options. Such as fault relays NO/NC functions to be utilized by the BMS engineers, on/off/auto selector switch function, low water suction sensor as well as added protection for break tank floats to be fitted as an extra protection.

For each inverter in operation, a given minimum set value is achieved by system demands. When a pressure drop is detected via the pressure sensor, the inverter will instantaneously switch the pump on to meet the requirements of the set point value, if a further pressure drop is detected the set will activate another pump in correlation with the first to match the built-in set point.

Depending on the number of pumps and the drop in pressure will depend on how many pumps will be activated to run at the same time.

Adversely the inverters will switch each pump off when the demand is achieved, saving energy costs. The operational duty change over to each pump, ensures each pump has the same amount of usage to share the working load.

    Product Features:

    • Choice of single or multi pump booster set configurations
    • Single pump inverters or control panel options
    • Anti-vibration mounts to reduce noise
    • Error code display for fault diagnostic
    • High energy efficient motors for a greener footprint
    • WRAS compliant components, WRAS approved Accumulators

    Packaged Booster Sets

The integrated VSD (variable speed drive) will maintain a constant water pressure to suit water demand. The advanced built-in technology will adjust the flow rate of the water to maximize water usage, at the same time keeping energy cost to a minimum. The VSD will put the pump into sleep mode when there is no demand and wake up again when the slightest drop in pressure is detected maintaining the built-in set point.

Packaged booster sets are designed to pressurise water within the built environment, with head and flow rates specifically calculated to maximize water usage. Whether it is mains boosted water or stored water tanks packages, booster sets will provide fresh water to residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

    Energy Savings

Pumping systems account for more than 20% of the world’s electrical energy demand and in certain industrial plant operations can be responsible for between 25% and 90% of the energy usage. Improving the energy efficiency of pumping systems will reduce production costs and support green credentials. Whether it’s freshwater pumps, fluid handling, heating, or cooling, the energy cost of a motor-driven system will be significant.

An intelligent variable speed drive or variable frequency drive will offer 10% energy savings and 25% reduction in payback time over a given pump life cycle. In some applications energy costs can be made by up to 50% compared to a traditional non inverter driven Direct On Line (DOL) pumps.

How to Select the Correct Booster Set?

When choosing a Booster Set, it is important to consider the factors listed below:

    • The static height of the building
    • Normal demand flow rate: (taps, showers, toilets, sinks, baths, plant equipment etc.)
    • Operational diversity: how many outlets are being used at the same time at peak demand?
    • Friction losses in pipework and equipment
    • Height of the storage tank in comparison to the booster set
    • Diameter and length of pipework

Our pump experts are on hand to help you select the right pump or packaged booster set to suit your application. This will help to increase efficiency, minimise water usage and lower energy consumption.

    Booster Set Services

    Booster Set Servicing

Servicing is forward-thinking in the prevention of equipment failure. Having an annual or bi-annual contract will help in the defence against system failure, preserving the life expectancy of water pumps and pressurised equipment.
