Plant Room Upgrade Project for NHS Hospital

Valveforce delivered a critical platform upgrade across five condensate recovery systems at a major UK hospital.
This project formed part of the hospital’s wider drive to reduce maintenance burden, improve plant reliability, and enhance operational efficiency — all while meeting strict regulatory and budgetary frameworks.

What was the problem?

The existing condensate recovery systems were exhibiting significant signs of wear and degradation, including corroded vessels, leaking valves, and obsolete controls. Their condition posed an increasing risk to the hospital’s essential infrastructure, with potential for unplanned failures, steam losses, and health and safety concerns.

Given the critical nature of continuous steam and condensate handling in a healthcare environment—from sterilisation to heating—a reliable and modernised solution was urgently required.

How Valveforce helped

As the NHS continues to focus on value for money, transparent procurement, and technically robust solutions, Valveforce was proud to be awarded a competitive tender to deliver a critical platform upgrade across five condensate recovery systems at a major UK hospital.

This project formed part of the hospital’s wider drive to reduce maintenance burden, improve plant reliability, and enhance operational efficiency — all while meeting strict regulatory and budgetary frameworks.

Valveforce’s proven ability to combine engineering expertise, project delivery discipline, and best-value procurement was a key factor in securing this award and successfully delivering the outcome.

To ensure the correct specification and best long-term value, Valveforce conducted a comprehensive plant room survey alongside a detailed steam trap survey. This enabled a full assessment of existing system conditions, including load sizing, condensate return capacities, and head pressure calculations.

This thorough approach ensured that each new condensate pump set was precisely matched to the site’s actual performance requirements — not just a like-for-like replacement — delivering a solution built on both engineering integrity and lifecycle efficiency.

Valveforce remained highly competitive throughout the tender process, strengthened by our fully in-house manufacturing capabilities. With coded welders, skilled control panel builders, and experienced design engineers all under one roof, we maintained stringent quality control, accelerated project timelines, and offered cost efficiencies that external suppliers cannot match.

This integrated approach enabled us to deliver technically superior solutions at a compelling price point, providing exceptional value for our client.

As the project progressed, the overall solution evolved into a complex turnkey installation, requiring a comprehensive mechanical and electrical service scope. Due to the hospital’s continuous operations, much of the work was carefully scheduled and carried out overnight on multiple occasions to minimise disruption and maintain critical services.

This demanded meticulous planning, coordination with hospital teams, and flexible execution to meet both technical and operational requirements.

The project was successfully completed over the course of two weeks, delivering the client with new, more energy-efficient, robust, and reliable condensate pump sets designed to meet their future operational demands.

This upgrade not only enhances system performance but also reduces maintenance needs and supports the hospital’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
