Boiler Control Valves Explained
ARCA boiler control valves regulate flow, pressure and temperature throughout the boiler system. Each valve is engineered to withstand extreme operating conditions including high differential pressure, cavitation, flashing and thermal cycling.
Valveforce supports the complete boiler process, from feedwater regulation through to superheater temperature control, ensuring efficiency, safety and long-term reliability across power generation and industrial boiler applications.
Boiler Control Valve Services
Specification & Design
Selecting the correct boiler control valve requires careful consideration of process conditions, materials, pressure ratings, temperature limits, noise, cavitation and flashing risks.
Valveforce works closely with operators and engineers to specify ARCA valves that deliver optimum performance and longevity. Our design support includes:
- Valve sizing and characteristic selection
- Trim design for cavitation and noise control
- Material selection for high-temperature service
- Actuator and positioner configuration
- Compliance with relevant standards and plant requirements
This ensures every boiler control valve is engineered specifically for its operating environment.
1: Feed Water Control Valve
The feed water control valve regulates the water level in the boiler drum, ensuring a continuous and stable supply of feed water for steam generation. To balance the feed pump characteristics with the boiler system, the valve trim is designed specifically to match operating conditions. Available series: 8C, 6H, 350, 380
2: Feed Water Start-Up Valve
During start-up, this valve fills the boiler drum while handling high differential pressures and cavitation. These compact valves use hardened multi-stage trims and operate in parallel with the main feed water control valve once normal operation begins. Available series: 8C, 6H, 190, 350
3: Burner Control Valve
The burner control valve regulates natural gas or fuel oil supply to the burner. Gas operation requires accurate flow and noise control, while oil operation uses the valve as a back-pressure regulator to maintain stable upstream pressure. Available series: 8C, 6N
4: Blowdown Valve
During start-up, this valve fills the boiler drum while handling high differential pressures and cavitation. These compact valves use hardened multi-stage trims and operate in parallel with the main feed water control valve once normal operation begins. Available series: 8C, 6H, 190, 350
5: Boiler Start-Up Control Valve
At boiler start-up, steam is vented through a silencer system to atmosphere. Large pressure drops require asymmetric valve designs to maintain stability and long service life. Available series: 8C, 6H, 350, 380
6: Soot Blower Control Valve
Soot blower valves deliver live steam to clean heat exchanger surfaces. Extremely fast actuation ensures effective removal of soot deposits and maintains heat transfer efficiency. Available series: 6H, 190, 350, 380
7: Air Preheater Control Valve
This valve regulates steam to the air preheater, controlling combustion air temperature. Preheating improves burner efficiency and overall combustion performance. Available series: 8C, 6N
8: 3-Way Mixing Valve – Variant I
For high-pressure systems, secondary superheaters increase efficiency and protect turbine blades. The 3-way mixing valve controls superheater temperature by directing steam through a cooling coil in the steam drum, blending it with cooler water to achieve precise temperature control. Available series: 200, 220
9: Boiler Injection Cooler – Variant II
Modern systems regulate superheater temperature using desuperheaters that inject feed water into steam flow, providing fast and responsive thermal control. Available series: 590
