Cassette Plate Heat Exchangers Explained
What is a Cassette Plate Heat Exchanger?
A cassette plate heat exchanger is a specialised gasketed plate heat exchanger that incorporates double-wall cassette plates. Each cassette consists of two thin stainless steel plates laser welded together around the perimeter, creating an additional safety barrier between the process fluids.
If one plate develops a leak, fluid escapes externally rather than mixing with the opposing process stream, allowing leaks to be detected quickly and preventing cross-contamination.
This makes cassette plate heat exchangers particularly suitable for applications involving hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical products and high-value process fluids.
What is a Cassette Plate Heat Exchanger Used For?
Cassette plate heat exchangers are used wherever fluid separation is critical and cross-contamination cannot be tolerated.
Typical Applications
- Chemical processing
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Food and beverage production
- Dairy processing
- Marine cooling systems
- Industrial process heating and cooling
- High-purity process systems
- Hazardous fluid applications
- District energy systems
Why Choose Our Cassette Plate Heat Exchanger Solutions?
Our cassette plate heat exchangers combine high thermal efficiency with enhanced operational safety and complete serviceability.
Enhanced Leak Protection
Double-wall cassette plates provide an additional level of protection by ensuring any internal plate failure becomes externally visible before fluids can mix.
High-Efficiency Heat Transfer
Optimised corrugated plate patterns maximise turbulence and heat transfer while maintaining compact equipment dimensions.
Fully Serviceable Design
The bolted frame allows the plate pack to be dismantled for inspection, cleaning, gasket replacement and capacity expansion.
Long-Term Reliability
High-quality materials, precision manufacturing and replaceable components provide extended service life and lower lifecycle costs.
Inside the Cassette Plate Heat Exchanger
How It Works
Hot and cold fluids flow through alternating channels formed by the cassette plate pack. Heat passes efficiently through the stainless steel plates while the double-wall construction maintains complete separation between the two fluids.
Should either plate within a cassette become damaged, leakage is directed externally where it can be identified during routine inspection, eliminating the risk of hidden cross-contamination.
Double-Wall Cassette Construction
Each cassette consists of two laser-welded stainless steel plates that create an air gap between process streams. This innovative construction provides enhanced operational safety without compromising heat transfer performance.
