Air Blast Coolers Explained
What is an Air Blast Cooler?
An air blast cooler is a heat exchanger that removes heat from a process fluid by transferring it to ambient air. Hot liquid flows through finned tubes while electrically driven fans force air across the extended surface area, dissipating heat without requiring cooling water.
This simple but highly effective design makes air blast coolers ideal where water is unavailable, expensive or undesirable.
What is an Air Blast Cooler Used For?
Air blast coolers are widely used in industries requiring reliable process cooling without the need for cooling towers or water treatment systems.
Typical Applications
- Industrial hydraulic oil cooling
- Compressor aftercoolers
- Engine and generator cooling
- Process fluid cooling
- Power generation
- Chemical processing
- Petrochemical facilities
- Renewable energy installations

Inside the Air Blast Cooler
How It Works
Process fluid enters the finned tube bundle where heat is transferred through the tube walls into aluminium or steel cooling fins.
Axial fans draw or force ambient air across the finned surface, carrying heat away before the cooled process fluid exits the unit.
Forced or Induced Draft Designs
Depending on the application, air blast coolers may utilise forced draft fans beneath the bundle or induced draft fans mounted above, optimising airflow and thermal performance.

Air Blast Cooler Services
Specification & Design
Our engineers assess process temperatures, heat loads, ambient conditions and available installation space to design an air blast cooler that delivers optimum thermal performance. We calculate airflow requirements, tube bundle sizing, fan selection and pressure losses to ensure maximum efficiency while minimising energy consumption and operating costs.
Installation & Commissioning
Heatxforce provides complete installation and commissioning services including equipment positioning, structural support checks, pipework integration, electrical connections, fan rotation verification and operational performance testing. Every installation is fully commissioned to ensure reliable operation from day one.
Overhaul & Repair
Our overhaul services restore cooling performance through detailed inspections, tube bundle cleaning, fin repairs, fan motor replacement, bearing replacement, vibration analysis and structural refurbishment. Where required, we can manufacture or source replacement coils, fan assemblies and ancillary components to minimise downtime.
